Eagles girls take two

By Jerry W. Kram

The New Town Eagles girls basketball team has had a rough start to the season, but Head Coach Damon Brady isn’t too concerned because the team has been facing some of the toughest teams in the state. The Eagles have no played three games against teams in Region 8 and have won all three, the last two this week over the Divide County Maroons 72-48 and the White Shield Warriors 76-26.

"Our schedule is pretty strong," Brady said. "It is going to be a dogfight to get out of our district and region this year."

Brady said the experience the young Eagles team has gained in its early losses paid off against the Maroons.

"We are taking good shots, we are rebounding, and we’re playing defense," Brady said. "We are playing smarter basketball and that’s what we wanted to do. We played better defense against Divide County. We shared the ball better too. The team is unselfish and put accountability to their teammates first. We hope that carries over."
