After losing three straight games to Beulah, North Shore-Plaza and Solen Cannonball, the New Town Eagles boys easily took care of a Killdeer Cowboys team on Tuesday night, 73-34, at the Northern Lights Building.
The Eagles full-court defense was key in gaining an early lead, 25-5, after the first quarter. The Eagles went into halftime with a 37-11 lead. Going into the final quarter of play, the Eagles held a 57-24 lead and held on for the victory. The Eagles were led in scoring by Wayne Fox (20 points).
The Eagles moved to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in District 15.
“They came out tonight (Tuesday) a lot more aggressive,” said New Town Eagles head coach Chuck Hunter. “In practice, we’ve been going a lot harder. We’ve been telling them in practice that this is our time to fine tune before Districts. We have another seven games before the District tournament. Our guards came out aggressive and we attacked the basket instead of settling for a three-pointer.”
Hunter said that the three losses in a row were decided by four points or less and came down to some pivotal possessions.
