Eagles fall on last minute bucket
By Jerry W. Kram
The New Town Eagles girls basketball team was able to jump to an early lead against the Killdeer Cowboys, but couldn’t hold on as they took the one point loss at home Tuesday, 51-50.
"It was a really good game," said head coach Damon Brady. "We are playing a tough schedule and we are in a tough region. We have played a couple of ranked teams and a Beach team that has gone to state four years in a row. And we’ve had three games in the last four days."
The Eagles scored the first eight points of the game, holding the Cowyboys scoreless for nearly six minutes with some suffocating defense. But the Cowboys came storming back with a seven point run in less than a minute to get close. The Eagles got the last four points of the first quarter to lead 12-7. The Eagles continued their run to start the second quarter, padding their lead to 15-7. But the Cowboys came storming back again, and pulled within one again at 17-16 with four minutes to go in the half. The Eagles were able to force a couple of turnovers and scored on fast breaks to push their lead back to 23-17 at the half.
