Eagles fall in Region 8 final

By Jerry W. Kram

In a see-saw battle where both teams had double digit leads, the Parshall Braves had the last run that propelled them past a tough New Town Eagles team to punch their ticket to the North Dakota State Class B Boys Basketball Tournament.

It is the second Region Championship for the school this month, as the Braves girls basketball also went to the state tournament this year.

The Braves came into the tournament with an almost identical record as the Eagles, but they had beaten the Eagles in the regular season and in the District 15 tournament championship game as well. Braves Head Coach Wade Baker said the teams were very familiar with each other and that it would be a challenge to get a third win over the Eagles. He appreciated the opportunity to battle for the Region Championship after starting the season with five losses in the first six games and seven of the first 11 games.

"In the beginning of the season we didn’t know what we were going to go through," Baker said. "But after we settled down we started our streak and we were reeally solid. We kept on that same pace and we will keep on that pace. Our second half has been the real key, and we have been playing solid basketball. Our kids have no attitude and it is all good ball and behavior. That makes it easy to teach.
