Eagles cruise to remain undefeated
By Jerry W. Kram
The New Town Eagles had little trouble with the Trojans of Turtle Lake-McClusky-Mercer in action at the Northern Lights Community Center on Friday, Jan. 10, winning 60-34 and raising their record to 8-0. The Eagles are ranked sixth in the North Dakota Class B Basketball Poll.
The Eagles looked a little rusty in their first game in two weeks after the holiday break. Head Coach Chuck Hunter called for an aggressive offense and a number of long passes down court missed the mark for turnovers. However, the Eagles defense proved to be more than a match for the Trojans, holding TL-M-M to just four points in the first quarter.
"I think we came out a little flat," Hunter said. "It was a little too long of a break for us. The guys were excited for this game, but I think sometimes the emotions can get carried away. We would get a rebound and push for the break, but I think we got a little too excited."
The Eagles had a double digit lead by the end of the first quarter, 15-4 and were ahead 25-12 at halftime. Joe Baker provided a spark in the early going, scoring seven of his nine points in the first quarter, including a three point basket.
