Eagles clip Jays’ wings
By Jerry W. Kram
The Ray Jays and New Town Eagles boys basketball teams looked pretty even coming into the first game of the New Year in the New Town High School gymnasium. Both teams had two wins and one or two losses. But the Eagles were dominant in three quarters of the game, although the Jays made it interesting in the third, but the final score was 55-41, Eagles.
In the girls basketball matchup, the Lady Eagles had their way with the 1-7 Lady Jays, rolling to a 70-15 victory that had 10 players in the scoring column.
Tristan Williams scored the first five points of the game for the Eagles. He, along with Dylan Jones, would lead the Eagles in scoring with 14 points. Emil Nakapaahu would add six more points in the first quarter as Eagles entered the second quarter with a 13-6 edge.
“Everyone is going to be bigger than us,” said Eagles Head Coach Jay Hale. “Our two bigs aren’t that big. But Emil and Jastyn Goodbird do well playing against big dudes. They are getting better as the year goes on.”
