Eagles claim District 15 title

The New Town Eagles successfully defended their district championship on Saturday night as they defeated the Stanley Blue Jays 59-39 for the District 15 title in Watford City.
In his third year as head coach for the New Town Eagles, Chuck Hunter, has been to the district championship game all three times and experiencing success in two.
The Eagles easily defeated the White Shield Warriors on Thursday, 92-41, to advance to the semifinals against Watford City Friday. The Eagles also defeated the Wolves on their home court, 83-59, en route to a District 15 championship.
“They are starting to come together,” said Hunter. “It is just them wanting it real bad. I told them going into districts that we want our district championship back and a lot of teams are going to be trying to knock you off. I explained that to them and said they have to want it even more.”
“We are running about eight to nine guys now,” said Hunter. “We got a few underclassmen in there to get them some experience. The first night against White Shield we ran all of our guys. Against Watford we got to get some guys some valuable time and experience in that game. It was a plus that we got some of the guys on the bench to see some playing time. Ultimately, that is going to carry over for us. One of our big goals was to hold teams to 40 points or less. I told them if we can do that defensively, we will come out on top. We were pretty close with that. We we’re pleased with it but with the coaching staff we knew we could have did better. We always tell the guys we are looking for room for improvement and they have to want that too every day.”
