By Jerry W. Kram
One area team will be going to the Region 8 Volleyball Tournament in Tioga next week. New Town will play Parshall Thursday and the winner will head to regionals.
New Town started off the tournament with a win over the White Shield Warriors on Monday. The Eagles prevailed three sets to one, 25-19, 25-23, 22-25 and 25-23.
The Eagles got off to a quick start against White Shield, going up 7-1. The Warriors battled back to tie the score at 12. Payton Brady served up five straight points to put the Eagles ahead 19-14 and Amiah Fimbres served for another three points to make the score 23-15. The teams traded side outs and the Eagles took the opener 25-19. After going up 6-1 in the second set, the Eagles let the Warriors back in the game and the lead was not more than two for the rest of the set. Brooklyn Fox got a block to finish off the set with a score of 25-23.
In the third set it was the Warriors turn to get the hot start, going up 8-3. The Eagles managed to equalize the game at 15 all and had a late lead at 19-16. Down 22-21, the Warriors reeled off four straight points to take their first set of the night. Losing the set energized the Eagles and they led the fourth and deciding set most of the way. The Warriors kept it close however, and were serving to tie the game when the ball went into the net to preserve a 25-23 win for the Eagles.
