By Jerry W. Kram
Both the New Town Eagles and Parshall Braves came tantalizingly close to scoring some major upsets in the first round of the District 15 Volleyball Tournament in Watford City, but will miss out on the rest of the post season after losing their regional qualifying games on Monday.
New Town opened the tournament by taking the Williston Trinity Crusaders to the limit in five sets. The Crusaders took the first two sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-18. New Town came charging back to to tie the game up in two close sets, taking the third 26-24 and the fourth 25-22. In the tiebreaker, the teams traded the lead, with the Crusaders going up 6-3 and the Eagles gaining a 8-6 edge. The Crusaders then regained the advantage 13-10. The Eagles managed to stave of defeat for a few more points, but the Crusaders came out on top, 15-12.
