The New Town Eagles boys basketball team traveled to Bismarck on December 29 for a game against Solen-Cannonball. In a double overtime thriller, the Eagles won the game 71-68.
“That was an eye-opener,” said New Town Eagles head coach Chuck Hunter. “They are a team in another region who is able to get up and down the court and run. They can run and gun or slow it up as well. They were in the state tournament last year too so I was telling the guys that it was not just by chance that they made it and they were going to be ready to play.”
On Friday, the Eagles suffered their first loss of the season against New England 48-66.
“We came out flat,” said Hunter. “When we come out flat, some of the guys tend to stand and I think they end up relying more on Preston (Smith) and at times we need to have a better offensive flow. The more they move around and pick it up that way, they will get it started.”
