Close games don’t fall Eagles’ way

Shorthanded because of some NDHSAA suspensions, both the New Town Eagles boys and girls basketball teams came up short against key District 15 opponents. The Eagles boys fell to North Shore-Plaza by two points, 62-60 while the girls lost an overtime game to the Watford City Wolves 65-58.
With three players suspended, Covey Hale and Joe Don McKenzie found themselves pressed into the starting lineup. They responded well, with McKenzie grabbing some key rebounds and Hale forcing turnovers on defense and scoring 16 points. D.J. LeBeau led the Eagles with 19 points and Terrance Steele contributed 10.
The game was extremely close, with the lead changing hands multiple times in every quarter. The Eagles took the biggest lead of the game, six points, late in the third quarter, but the Wildcats pulled within one point going into the final eight minutes. The Eagles were unable to stop the inside game of 6’5” Hart Andes who scored 28 points and allowed guard Dovovan Lopez to score 20. Still, the Eagles were within two points with 12 seconds to go in the game but a three point shot by Steele went wide.
