It was another day at the office for the New Town Eagles.
Led by Clyde and Alex Baker, New Town won the boys team title in the state high school cross country meet held Saturday at the Hillcrest Golf Course in Jamestown.
It was the seventh straight year the New Town boys have either won a team or individual championship at the state cross country meet.
Clyde Baker, a junior, who had been running a consistent fourth most of the season, moved up two notches to claim second place and help push the Eagles to the top score of 72 among the 35 teams competing.
Alex Baker, who has been chasing the individual champion Ken Wells of Parshall all season, dropped to fourth, but it was learned during a homecoming pep rally Monday that Baker was injured during the race.
Regardless, he finished the 5-K run in 17:34. His determination through the grueling race earned him senior athlete of the year honors.
Donovan Lambert also figured into the thick of things, finishing No. 7, earning him an All-State designation.
Principal Dan Anderson, who spoke on behalf of head coach Brian Anderson who couldn’t attend the pep rally, said the top three contenders were right there as the finished the uphill race.
