Area track stars qualify for state meet

Five Parshall Braves and 11 New Town Eagles have qualified for the North Dakota Class B Track and Field Meet to be held at the Community Bowl in Bismarck on May 22-23.

Eagles Head Coach Brian Anderson said the Eagles took part in the Northwest Region meet in Watford City. This was the last meet prior to the State Meet and a chance to qualify for the State. The Eagles boys’ team came in second place behind Watford City with another very good team effort. Watford City totaled 157 points to New Town’s 146. Des Lacs Burlington/Lewis and Clark was third with 140 points, Trenton/Trinity Christian fourth at 81 and Williams County fifth with 39 points. There were 14 teams competing in the meet.

Leading the way for the Eagles were Ryan Wheeling finishing first in the 400 meter dash and 1600 meter run and Elijah Grady winning both the shot put and discus. Jalen Chase was the champion in the 3200 meter run and Scott Hale took first in the 800 meter run. Also taking first was the 3200 meter relay team of Scott Hale, Terrance Steele, Jalen Chase and Ryan Wheeling.
