Area football teams fall to foes
By Jerry W. Kram
Both the Parshall Braves and New Town Eagles took a beating in the second week of the high school football season.
The Braves traveled to Towner to face the TGU Titans and were dominated by a score of 64-6. The Braves gave up a 60 yard pass and two point conversion in the first quarter, but otherwise held the Titans scoreless for the rest of the quarter. However, the wheels fell off for the Braves in the second quarter as the Titans rolled up 32 points. Eight of those points came on a blocked punt recovery and two point conversion. The Titans added another 24 points in the second half. The Braves lone score came on a 75 yard run by Justin Roberts with 5:49 to go in the game.
The New Town Eagles got off to a good start against the Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood Mavericks in New Town. After stopping the Mavericks on their opening drive, Darryl Grady put the Eagles on the board with 50+ yard touchdown run. Grady also carried the ball for the two point conversion, but an unsportsmanlike conduct call on the play enforced on the kickoff gave Mavericks a short field. They marched the ball in to make the game 8-6. On the Eagles next drive, the ball was stripped from Grady and the Mavericks carried the ball in to take the lead, 14-8.
