Youth take center stage at Chairman’s Bowl

By Logan J. Davis
The Chairman’s Bowl was one for the books this year. The teams that made the championship were New Town Purple and Bismarck War Machine. The two teams played one of the most exciting games in the six-year history of the Chairman’s Bowl.
New Town had the lead by the score 12-8 with about a minute to go in the game when the War Machine running back Leighton Sitting Dog got the War Machine deep into Eagles territory. One of Sitting Dog’s runs was on a second down and 20 yards to go. Then the elusive running back evaded tacklers to give the War Machine the lead at 14-12 and then Sitting Dog went up the gut for the two-point conversion to make it 16-12.
The Eagles made a valiant effort with only 36 seconds to go in the contest by running three plays and gaining a lot of yardage with Memphis Walking Elk being the main ball carrier. In his two runs in that last 36 seconds, he gained about 30 yard, although he ran about 200 yards total across the field to try and score what would have been a miracle touchdown. The final seconds ticked off with the crowd on the edge of their seats and an excited emcee announcer Charlie Moran on the microphone making the contest even better.
