Working hard to preserve languages

By Edna Sailor
With a whole lot of hard work on her part, Jayli Fimbres, 26, is realizing her dream to speak Hidatsa, her native language. She is one of several students and staff who traveled to Montana recently to gain experience in the endeavor.
Ruth Swaney, Tribal Education Director, expedited the experience. With the help of native language speaking mentors in the MHA Tribal Education program and a recent language exchange experience at Salish Kootenai College in Montana, language students on Fort Berthold have moved a step closer to enhancing their own language learning experience. Language acquisition is individual and personal.
