Meetings seek answers for Fort Berthold
By Jerry W. Kram
“Try to picture in your mind, what would be the ideal health care system for Fort Berthold,” Bill Patrie instructed a crowd of about a dozen people at a meeting in the Water Chief Hall in Mandaree.
Patrie is the executive director for the Common Enterprise Development Corporation which has held health care meetings in Twin Buttes, White Shield, Parshall, Mandaree and New Town. The goal of the meetings is to get people thinking about how health care is delivered on the reservation and how it could be improved. CEDC was engaged by the Wilson Health Planning Cooperative to lead the discussion. The cooperative is a project of Dr. Herbert Wilson, who practiced on the reservation even before the Elbowoods Hospital was closed in the early 1950s.
