Marina gets new caretaker

By Jerry W Kram

The New Town Marina has been looking for a new manager over the winter and found one who is a familiar face in the community.
Darren Carter was with the New Town Police Department for four years and now has a new role managing the campground and marina and running the bait shop at the popular recreation site just west of New Town. One of his first goal was to give the marina concession and bait shop a thorough makeover, along with a new name, the “Shake Bobber Bait Shop.”
“We are a licensed bait vendor and we already had a game warden stop by to make sure we are licensed,” Carter said. “We sell bait and all kinds of tackle, but we have some bigger things planned.”
Carter said he and his family started renovating the shop as soon as he was hired. The walls now have a new covering of bright blue paint and the floors were painted as well. The counter was stripped and stained for a unique look. A TV is up on the wall that will provide not just weather reports but slideshows of the photos of the big fish that get brought in. But the big change in store for the shop is that it will soon be serving hot food.
“We are getting a limited restaurant license,” Carter said. “We will have hot dogs, pizza, chicken, wings and stuff like that. We will do a special of the day, doing grilled dinners, we will have all your desserts and stuff.”
