Tribe wants office of Indian director reinstated
Karen Sitting Crow, education administrator for the Mandan, Hidatsa & Arikara Nation, testified earlier this month in support of SB 2130, a bill that would re-establish the position of director of Indian Education within the Department of Public Instruction.
She said the position would provide a voice for Native American children, and their families. “It’s been about eight years since the position was last filled. The last director provided a resource guide for teachers to use. The guide gave a history of the four tribes in the state and was for both Indian and non-Indian teachers and classes.”
