Top shooters gather for pool tourney
By Jerry W. Kram
Myrna Bear didn’t start the KJ Johnson Pool Tournament to bring some of the best pool players in the state to New Town, she just wanted to remember her nephew Kevin, who loved the game.
She wound up doing both.
More than a dozen teams from across the state gathered at the Players Pub for the eight ball tournament on a recent weekend.
"Kevin loved to shoot pool," Bear said. "All my friends and family come to this tournament. He was kind hearted and soft spoken and a good pool player."
Bear owns the Players Pub, and said she should couldn’t have put together the fourth annual tournament without the help of the league players who helped organize the event. Bill Jacobs, Bear’s husband, is one of those helping with the tournament.
"It takes about 10 people to get this organized," Jacobs said. "We bring in at least 45 pool players and last year we had 70."
Each player plays three games against every other team, or 24 games over the two day tournament.
