TB case identified at New Town school

A student at New Town High School has been diagnosed with an a case of active tuberculosis (TB).

At a special meeting with the New Town School Board, Superintendent Marc Bluestone said the school was informed Monday, Jan. 5, that a student was diagnosed with a case of active tuberculosis. He has been working closely with the North Dakota Department of Health, the Upper Missouri District Heath Unit in Stanley, and the Elbowoods Clinic to prepare a coordinated response to the incident.

Officials with the North Dakota Department of Health emphasized that it is safe to send children to school. The infected person has been asked to stay home and will not return until their health care provider has determined they are no longer infectious.
