Groups want pool operational this summer

Three groups working to get the New Town swimming pool operational this summer are urging the community to turn out for a fund-raiser lunch on Saturday in the New Town Civic Center.
The luncheon will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday (tomorrow) for anyone who would like to help support this style of recreation for the children and adults in the community.
Chuck Gilstad, one of the organizers and community members helping to spearhead this effort, said operating a swimming pool is expensive, but he feels there is enough interest to raise the funds to get it up and running.
A current swimming pool exists, but needs repairs and a heater to keep the water at body temperature.
“Resurfacing is a list item which we are very seriously looking at as soon as the pool is drained and inspected,” Gilstad said. “We’re planning to sandblast, repair the problem and add an epoxy coat.”
