State, MHA Nation sign revised tax pact
By Logan J. Davis
With a stroke of their pens, MHA Nation Tribal Chairman Mark N. Fox and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum took a major step towards an historic achievement that changes how the MHA Nation tribes and the state share tax revenue from oil and gas production on both trust and fee lands.
The dignitaries at the signing of the compact in the governor’s conference room at the Capital Building in Bismarck all applauded the signing. Hopes are high that the compact will benefit both the tribe and the state economically.
The new compact will be attached to Senate Bill 2312 and the signing clears the way for the bill to go to the N.D. House of Representatives for a vote during the current legislative session.
