OnWednesday, Dec. 19, law enforcement agents from several departments were surrounding a north New Town home where a heavily armed man was holed up after breaking into the house sometime after midnight that morning.
Thursday morning, law enforcement officers, including the Minot Police Department SWAT team, began an assault on the house, using a backhoe to tear down the walls of the home. As of 8:30 a.m., the north and west walls and garage had been torn down, but the suspect still refused to surrender. The result of the assault was not known at press time.
New Town Police Chief Art Walgren said his department received a called out Wednesday morning for an incident of a man brandishing a gun. The man had broken into a house on the corner of 9th Street and East Central Avenue in New Town. Three people in the house were taken hostage and were later released. The identity of the hostages were not available.
