Robert White would not characterize himself as much of a risk taker but three years ago the New Town native and his wife went all in on a long shot that eventually paid off.
After the pair were both working several full-time jobs trying to get ahead, they stumbled on an opportunity to purchased the Saltie Dog Bar and Grill on New Town’s Main Street in 2008. Since then the pair have been equally busy improving the bar and adding to it’s services.
Starting last week, they opened the front portion of the building to become a sit-down restaurant. It is open 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. The menu includes staples such as burgers and sandwiches but they also serve chicken, ribs, pork chops, roast beef, steaks and even a couple salads for under $10. A limited menu is available in the evenings from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
“We are kind of hoping to add to our menu, we have a short menu. It’s a lot of meat and potatoes,” Leslie said. “Once we get more into a groove of things and get some good, steady help we want to add on to our menu.”
