Rodeo returns to New Town
By Jerry W. Kram
The Old West spirit will be out in force on Saturday as the New Town Rodeo Grounds will once again be hosting top flight talent at the fifth Adrian Foote Sr. Annual Rodeo.
The events will begin at 5 p.m. The entrance to the Rodeo Grounds will be off of North Dakota Highway 23 and will be marked. The admission is $15 but those under 12 and over 65 can get in for free.
Foote anticipates that there will be more than 150 cowboys and cowgirls from as far away as Texas competing in the rodeo’s seven events. There will be one women’s event, barrel racing, along with bareback bronc, saddle bronc, steer wrestling, calf roping, team roping, and bull riding.
The event is is sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association. Along with cash prizes, the participants will be competing for points that will qualify them for the PRCA National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. Foote said one of the rodeo’s promoters and stock contractors, Shane Gunderson, was instrumental in getting the local rodeo sanctioned by the PRCA.
