Rockin’ the Rez with the message of Jesus Christ

History was made Monday night in New Town when four of the most popular Christian rock bands in the nation performed together for the first time on an Indian reservation.
Kutless, Stellar Kart, Disciple and Esterlyn performed for three hours in front of a crowd of about 1,000, singing about hope and love and spreading the word of Jesus Christ.
“It’s very important for us to share the love of God with our audience,” Kutless guitarist and vocalist James Mead said Monday prior to the concert. “I think people are going to come here and rock out.”
Mead, who has been with the band since it began in 2000, said the music of Kutless is essentially the hard rock variety and many people compare the group to Canadian rock band Nickelback. Unlike Nickelback, however, the lyrics of Kutless present the message of Christianity.
Nick Departee, who also plays guitar for Kutless, has been with the band two years and says there is no other message than the one of Jesus Christ.
“It would be pointless for us to be in a band for any other reason,” he said. “I’m excited about this concert. We are stoked, as they say on the West Coast.”
Speaking of out west, Kutless had already sold out concerts Tuesday and Wednesday nights in Boise and Spokane. Both Mead and Departee weren’t surprised, suggesting the following is getting larger and they expected to also sell out a concert Thursday night in Redmond, Wash.
Whether it’s the music, the lyrics, or the savvy method in which they deliver their message of hope and love, crowds are flocking to their concerts, just as they did in New Town Monday night. The concert, which was free thanks to Pulsecampus.com, brought people in from as far away as Fargo and Billings.
