Nursing home returns to local ownership

The Good Samaritan Society, operator of New Town’s nursing home, has been an integral part of the community for many years. But its leaving wont’ leave a hole in the community as a local organization has stepped up to take ownership of the facility.
September 15 will mark the formal transition to local ownership and a new name, Lakeside Community Living Center. The transition will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with a presentation and a barbeque lunch that will include an all American menu including hot dogs, hamburgers and apple pie, said center manager Jeanine Uran.
“The community, families, anybody are invited,” Uran said. “It’s also assisted living week that week. Usually we try to have some kind of event so this year we are kind of putting it all together.”
The regional director of the Good Samaritan Society will attend the ceremony, Uran said. Among the events planned are a balloon launch.
A community group from New Town build the Center many years ago and sold it to the Good Samaritan Society. Last year, the society decided to end operations in this area and closed the home in Parshall and sought a buyer for the New Town facility. The New Town Health Support Group was organized to try and buy and operate the center. Terry Wilber is the president of the corporation’s boad.
