New Town turns out for holiday fun
By Jerry W. Kram
For the second year in a row winter’s worst avoided New Town leading to the biggest crowds in memory for the annual craft show, Santa, Main Street Walkabout and Parade of Lights.
Temperatures reached up into the 40s, banishing any ice and snow that would have led someone to stay home. According to Audrey Staples with the New Town Chamber, that led to more than 80 vendors showing up for the craft show that kicked off the day’s events at 10 a.m. Along with the main auditorium at the Civic Center, vendors squeezed into the squad room, court room and old library in City Hall.
“We’ve had this many vendors sign up in past years, but this has been the first year where it was nice enough for all of them to show up,” Staples said. “So I really thing this is the biggest ever.”
