The New Town News continues to be a strong weekly newspaper in North Dakota as it picked up 14 awards Saturday at the North Dakota Newspaper Association convention held in Fargo.
The News, competing in the circulation category 1,001-1,999, was topped by sister BHG Inc., newspaper the Hazen Star, which won General Excellence and sweepstakes categories.
New Town’s newspaper editor and advertising manager took one first-place award, two seconds, 10 thirds and one honorable mention.
Three of the awards were in news and editorial, three were in advertising and eight were in photography.
BHG newspapers captured 206 awards in the contest. The company’s 11 weekly newspapers took home 82 news and editorial awards, 78 advertising awards and 40 photography awards.
New Town News and Mountrail County Record staff members collected nearly half of the total photography awards, winning 18 of 40 photo awards in seven separate categories.
