New Town High School looking at new home

It took three plans but last Thursday the New Town School Board finally decided on the building plans for the new high school to be completed by the summer of 2012.
The 46,000 square foot building will have a solid 26,000 square foot first floor with a 20,000 square foot second level. The whole structure will sit 50 feet north of the current building as part of the old high school will eventually be connected to the structure.
The new school will allow for 21 new class rooms, a new office for the principals and state of the art technology in each classroom.
According to Superintendent Marc Bluestone, the whole idea of building a new structure came out of the thought to refurbish some of the old school, which was constructed back in the 1950s. The school board did research about how much it would cost them to make the current structure look brand new and the difference was less than a couple million.
“We were stunned by that,” Bluestone said. “We are better off building a building that will last 40, 60, 80 years.”
