The New Town Eagles boys basketball team will face the second seed Stanley Blue Jays in the opening round of the Region 8 Boys Basketball Tournament at Williston State College at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, March 7.
The Eagles earned the berth by beating the White Shield Warriors 84-60 in the regional qualifying game in New Town on Monday. The Eagles placed third in the District Tournament. After an opening round victory over North Shore-Plaza 81-66, the Eagles pushed the Parshall Braves to the limit in the semifinals, leading the 10th ranked Braves in the fourth quarter before falling 81-78.
"We would rather play hard competition and Parshall is a really good team," said Eagles Head Coarch Robert White. "We came up on the short end of the stick, but the boys played well. They played like champions. Everything is starting click. We aren’t hitting on all cylinders but we are pretty darn close."
The Eagles had big quarters in the first and third quarters in the opening round against North Shore-Plaza to hang on for a 15 point victory.
