New Town area grows 40 percent in 10 years
Mountrail County sees third highest growth percentage in the state

It’s official, New Town is one of the top 10 growing communities in North Dakota.
Census figures reveal that New Town’s population has now reached 1,925, up 558 residents from a population of 1,367 in 2000. That represents a 40.8 percent growth. There are nine other communities in the state having a higher percentage of growth but five of them have insignificant populations. Only West Fargo, Horace, East Dunseith and Four Bears Village had higher growth percentages.
In fact, only 10 other communities had greater growth than New Town led by West Fargo, Fargo, Bismarck and Williston.
Mountrail County has had a growth rate of 15.7 percent, making it the third highest in the state behind only Cass and Burleigh counties. The population of Mountrail County stands at 7,673, surpassing Pembina and Bottineau counties from the 2000 census. Cass County, including Fargo, West Fargo and Casselton, now has nearly one-fourth the state’s population.
Data for the Fort Berthold Reservation wasn’t immediately available, but Four Bears Village, in McKenzie County, was up 42 percent and now has a population of 517, making the New Town suburb the third largest city in McKenzie County behind Watford City and Mandaree, which also saw a 6.8 percent populaton increase to 596.
