MHA to offer tribal license plates
The MHA Nation will soon begin offering tribal license plates to tribal members living on the For Berthold Reservation.
On December 19, 2018, MHA Nation Tribal Chairman Fox and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum signed a compact agreement for the MHA DOT Licensing Administration to begin licensing vehicles.
MHA Department of Transportation Director Richard Hall wanted the MHA nation enrolled members to have an option of licensing their vehicles with tribal plates. He begin working towards his ideal and approached the Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara Nation (MHA) Tribal Business Council (TBC) in 2015. )n September 2, of that year, Tribal Business Council approved and voted in favor of tribal plates.
With the oil boom growing stronger the Licensing administration was put aside, but Hall didn’t forget about this project. He still felt the need to pursue the MHA Nation tribal plates and once again he approached the council to hire staff. Stacey Driver began working on the tribal licensing.
