Mandaree School is on a fast track

Plan aims to be ready for fall of 2020

The Mandaree Warriors are going to have a new home in the fall of 2020 if all goes according to plan.
Superintendent Ann Longie and the architects and builders held community meetings last week to unveil the plans for a new school near the rodeo ground in Mandaree. The project is on a fast track because the MHA Nation Tribal Council approved $40 million in funding for the school and accompanying 50 units of teacher housing earlier this month. Longie said the hope was to have the new school ready for the 2020-21 school year, so work on the project needs to begin as soon as possible.
“This is possible because our architects actually worked on designing the school before the funding was approved,” Longie said. “They did the work with no assurance that the project would be funded or they would be awarded the contract. But it had to be done if we wanted to have the school ready by next year, so we are very grateful to them.”
