Lend a hand with a one can

A little competition, it is said, is a good thing. Two oilfield companies have set up a competition for local businesses across the oil patch with the intention of doing a very good thing for hungry people across the Bakken.
IVM Construction of New Town and Whiting Oil and Gas are distributing collection boxes for nonperishable food items to businesses and churches across the region in a competition to see who can collect the most food between Dec. 10 and Dec. 20.
The collection points range from Bismarck and Bowman north to Minot and Stanley. Other communities participating are Williston, Watford City, Sidney, Crosby, New Town, Parshall, Tioga, Killdeer, Dickinson, Parshall, Keene and Mandaree. The businesses choose which local food pantry the food will be donated to, including the Parshall Resource Center and many others.
“With so many elderly and families struggling to make ends meet, the Oil and Gas industry in the Bakken has pulled together to help those who need our help,” said Rick Harger of IVM. “We will be collecting food and other goods in more than 60 locations in 15 different cities to help those less forturnate. Fifteen and probably more homeless shelters, crisis shelters, food banks and pantries will benefit.”
Each of the participating businesses will be competing for a traveling trophy. The top five businesses that gather the most pounds of food will have their name engraved on the trophy, but only the business with the heaviest donation will take the trophy home to proudly display until next year.
