Lakeside Community Living Center closes
By Jerry W. Kram
The Lakeside Community Living Center has closed.
The basic care and assisted living facility has been operated by the New Town Health Support Corporation since acquiring it from the Good Samaritan Society nearly a decade ago. Corporation chairman Terry Wilber said the facility just didn’t have enough residents to continue.
“We’ve just been skimping by for a while,” Wilber said. “We just had five residents left. To make the the place cash flow you need 14 to 15 residents. So the cash ran out and were borrowing money and borrowing money.”
He noted that two of the residents were especially good friends and were able to be placed in the same facility.
“They thought that was neat,” Wilber said.
The issue was brought to a head with upcoming retirement of the facility’s registered nurse, Susan Weidman. Wilber said it was hard enough to recruit a new nurse to come to New Town and it would be fair to an applicant if the facility closed a short time later. Wilber said that without Weidman and Adminstrator Jeanine Uran the LCLC would have closed long ago.
