Kick off to Christmas remains popular event

Despite a crisp and cold afternoon and evening Saturday, more than 300 turned out for New Town’s annual kick-off to Christmas that included a craft show, a walkabout of downtown businesses that included a visit from Santa Claus and a Parade of Lights as darkness fell.
It was the 17th annual Parade of Lights in which the participants seem to become more creative every year. Eastside Auto Body took the governor’s choice award, while Four Bears Boys and Girls Club took top honors in the commercial division, followed by 4 Feathers Head Start in the kids division.
But it was the 13th annual craft show that had downtown buzzing. There wasn’t a parking spot to be found, business transactions in downtown stores were as brisk as the December cold and return vendors do tell it was the best craft show they have ever attended in New Town.
The show brought vendors to town from all over the state and five prospective vendors had to be turned away as the New Town Civic Center was filled to capacity. Vendors from New Town, Minot, Stanley, Surrey, Trenton, Tioga, Bismarck, Dickinson and Jamestown, made it a shopping day to remember.
