Kenton Onstad elected House Minority Leader

District 4 Representative Kenton Onstad will have a few more responsibilities during this session of the North Dakota Legislature. The Parshall resident has been selected by has fellow Democrats to be the Minority Leader in the state House of Representatives.
Onstad said the Democrats main priority is to invest in North Dakota’s infrastructure, including roads and law enforcement in western North Dakota and flood control and recovery in Fargo and Minot. Another priority is to make sure the Legislature doesn’t reduce Medicaid reimbursements to physicians and hospitals. He also listed education, day care, and emergency services.
“We’re looking for a larger investment in the state of North Dakota,” Onstad said. “We shouldn’t be a sacrificial lamb. Whether it is housing, law enforcement, social issues, emergency services, we’re being impacted all over the state of North Dakota. I believe and our party believes that it is the state’s responsibility to make good policy.”
Onstad said his position is a good thing for District 4.
“We have more of a straight voice to the governor’s office,” he said. “We can get the ear of the press quicker. It’s going to have a good impact for our district and for western North Dakota.”
