High-speed wireless to be tested in New Town

A cutting-edge wireless Internet system that is said to have six times the productivity of DSL, will soon be making its debut in New Town.
The system, owned and operated by Extend America, is expected to be installed and operational by early summer after engineers do some testing prior to installation.
Extend America representative Bill Sorenson met with the New Town City Council last Wednesday to describe the advantages of adding the system to the local community. Cost to install it is estimated at $30,000.
Sorenson, the former mayor of Bismarck, said New Town and Dickinson are the only two communities in North Dakota where this technology is being made available, although it is used in several communities in Saskatchewan, as well as across Europe. Two communities in Oklahoma and one in Arizona are the only other locations in the United States where this smart-antenna technology is available at the current time.
“It’s high speed, but mobile,” Sorenson said. “We’re not asking for money but asking for permission to go on three light poles.”
