Halonen selected as new NTPD Chief

By Jerry W. Kram
In August, the New Town City Council promoted Sgt. Jacquelyn Halonen to be the New Town Police Department’s fifth Police Chief since it was reconstituted in 2012. Halonen replaces former Chief Tyler Rintimaki, who left to for a law enforcement job in Dunn County.
Halonen grew up in Minnesota and earned a degree in criminal justice at North Dakota State University. She went to seasonal park law enforcement training in Ely, Minn., and then came to North Dakota where she completed North Dakota’s law enforcement training.
“Eventually I ended up in New Town,” Halonen said. “Before I started with New Town in 2017 I was a law enforcement officer for about 2 ½ years.”
In New Town she was promoted to Sargent under Chief Rintamaki. When Rintamaki left, the New Town City Council appointed Halonen acting Police Chief. She was hired as chief at the end of August.
