Group calls for Main Street renovation

Several years ago, the Fort Berthold Tribal Business Council authorized an organization to work for the economic development of the North Segment, which includes New Town. The group never really got off the ground, but it has been reorganized and is seeking public input and suggestions on how New Town can expand its economy and take advantage of the boom that is going on all around it.
The North Segment Development Corporation held a meeting with representatives of the New Town Chamber of Commerce, tribal government, city government and other concerned citizens at the Northern Lights Community Center on Thursday, April 4. Tom Hale, owner of TDH Catering and Fast Foods is the Secretary of the corporation’s board and was main spokesperson at the meeting.
“After Ken Hall got on the council we were asked to revive the Development Corporation,” Hale said. “The economic development committee of the tribal council passed a resolution stating that all economic development for the segment should go through the corporation.”
Other members of the corporation’s board are Marle Baker, chairman, Elgin Crows Breast, vice chairman, and Tony Foote, treasurer.
