A public affairs official with the Good Samaritan Society in Sioux Falls, S.D., is assuring the residents of the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in New Town that the facility will remain open, even though the Rock View Nursing Home in nearby Parshall is closing in a month.
However, the Good Samaritan Society is looking for a buyer to rearrange a few things and turn the facility into a profitable venture.
“We think Good Samaritan has potential to do well,” said Mark Dickerson. “We’re looking for a buyer, so we hope somebody takes a shot at it.”
Like Rock View, Good Samaritan has been facing staffing challenges, according to Dickerson. He said there has been a lot of turnover which can diminish services to the residents. But then New Town has struggled with residential capacity. Dickerson called it a “Catch 22.”
He said New Town’s nursing home was 55 percent of capacity in 2010 and without a full house, financial consequences begin to come into play.
With the right buyer, however, Dickerson said the Good Samaritan Society believes that new ideas and new management will most likely turn the facility around and make it a solid business once again in the community.
