A local support group that hasn’t been active in recent years is getting the chance of a lifetime as members actively pursue ownerhip in the Good Samaritan Center.
The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society based in Sioux Falls, S.D., announced in January it would be closing Rock View Nursing Home in nearby Parshall in March, but wanted to keep New Town’s facility operating until a new owner could be found.
That’s when the New Town Health Support Corp., stepped up to the plate. Led by Terry Wilber, Martha Johnson and Marcia Wilber, the organization that includes advisory board members Bob Turner, Doug Rensch and John Reese, is re-invigorating itself as a non-profit entity, which is something the Good Samaritan Society requires before it releases ownership.
“This is a commitment to keep it basic care,” Johnson said. “And in five years, the board is looking at ongoing basic care and assisted living. That is our intent.”
