Funding announced for area rural water projects
Nearly $6 million will be coming to the North Central Rural Water Consortium through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The funding will help bring a clean, dependable drinking water supply to residents in north central North Dakota.
Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-NPL, made the announcement last Friday. Dorgan is chairman of the Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee.
The $5.86 million investment in the north-central region will go toward construction on three separate projects that will benefit residents of the cities of Ryder and Makoti, as well as rural Ward, Wells, Stutsman, Kidder and McLean counties.
A total of $3.105 million will be used to construct a new water transmission pipeline, concrete storage facility and pump station to deliver treated water to the communities of Ryder and Makoti and rural Ward County. A total of $2.275 million will be used to expand water service to rural residents of western McLean and Ward counties.
