Levi Bruce knows what a hard day’s ride is all about.
Bruce, New Town, along with his good friend Henry Real Bird, Crow Agency, Mont., decided to take a summer trip to Rocky Boy, Mont., a small town near Havre on the Rocky Boy Reservation to raise awareness for cancer, diabetes and wellness.
Cancer and diabetes have been major issues with Indian health and Bruce and Real Bird believe that their trip will help bring that awareness to the forefront so these diseases can be fought and eradicated.
The trip would be a long one for a 38-year-old, according to the 68-year-old Bruce, but he would do it again in a heartbeat. In fact, he is planning a similar trip to Mount Rushmore sometime in 2011. He wants to make that trip to commemorate aniversary of the 1851 Fort Laramie Treaty.
You might remember Bruce. He is the man who provides sleigh rides for the children as Christmas approaches. He has also made several rides to Crow Agency in the past to commemorate significant dates.
