Freshmen flood into New Town High

By Jerry W. Kram
New Town High School Prinicipal John Gartner got a surprise in the past few weeks when nearly 100 freshmen signed up for classes in the 2019-20 school year.
That is more than 20 percent higher than the average class over the last few years, Gartner told the New Town School Board on Thursday. There were 236 students enrolled in the high school at the start of the year, with 43 seniors, 41 juniors, 56 sophomores and a whopping 96 freshmen. Gartner added that the number of students usually fluctuates in the first few weeks of the year as families who spend the summer in and out the region for work or pleasure head home or move back.
