Elders organization sponsors 4th Annual Prayer Day

Elders organization sponsors 4th Annual Prayer Day

The day was bright and beautiful as members of the MHA Nation gathered at the Little Shell Powwow Grounds in Four Bears to celebrate the MHA Elders Organization Fourth Annual Prayer Day.
Donna Morgan and Ramona Two Shields are board members of the Elders Organization who worked to organize the event more than a dozen clergy and tribal elders, along with sacred music and Hidatsa, Arikara and Mandan hymns.
Morgan said the prayer day started at the suggestion of former tribal councilman Malcolm Wolf.
“He recommended that we start something like this reservation wide about four years ago,” Morgan said. “When we first started out it was a pot luck and we were pretty much on our own. But now the casino helps out. Judy Brugh has also donated to this cause every year for the last three years.”
Two Shields said that anyone who wanted to share a prayer was welcome to speak at the meeting along with the clergy and elders who were scheduled to share their prayers. She said that the changes that have occurred on the reservation over the last several years were a reason for starting the event.
