Groundbreaking is tentatively set for Columbus Day, Oct. 12 for the Elbowoods Health Care facility which will be located in northeast New Town near Fort Berthold Community College.
According to project director Jim Foote, the full-scale ambulatory and after-hours health care facility, has been a long time coming and became a step closer to reality this past week when dirt work was completed on a road leading into the facility.
A hill, affectionately known as sandhill, had to shaved down to create an acceptable grade for the road. Now that that has been accomplished, the groundbreaking can take place and construction may commence.
“The tribal road department built the road and saved us a half million dollars,” Foote said. “The hill didn’t look that big, but we whittled it down.”
Marion Trucking and Construction, Dunseith, assisted in the project with scrapers to cut into the hill. Marion is the company that two weeks ago was awarded the contract to build the health-care facility at a cost of $13.5 million. Foote said Marion and subcontractor Comstock Construction, Wahpeton, will become noticeable in New Town once construction gets started.
