New Town High School captures another State Cross Country Crown
By Jerry W. Kram
Robert White was still in elementary school when New Town began its current domination of North Dakota Cross Country. This year he carried on that tradition by becoming the North Dakota Class B Cross Country Individua1 Champion and 2019 Senior Cross Country Athlete of the Year to lead the team to its eighth consecutive team championship.
White improved on his personal best time of the year on the 5K course at the Souris Valley Country Club in Minot by more than 10 seconds. He ran the course in 15:53, beating runners up Chase Fossum of Central Valley/Hillsboro and Noah Rolfe of Stanley by more than 10 and 20 seconds respectively.
The New Town boys won the team competition with a score of 66 points, besting Bowman County which was second with 83. White was one of three all state (top 20) performers for New Town with Addison Red Fox finishing eighth with a time of 16:52 and Colt Spotted Bear with a time of 17:26. Phoenix White and Ben DuBois rounded out New Town’s top five finishing in 21st and 22nd place. Other competitors for New Town were Khael Decoteau, Desean Finley, Lander Lahtinen, and Xavier Bell.
